For most Mardi Gras Krewes in South Louisiana, the Carnival is a year-long celebration which all leads to the Balls, the parades, and finally Mardi Gras day.
The Children’s Krewe of Oberon Ball and the Krewe of Carnivale en Rio kicked off the 2018 Mardi Gras Ball Schedule this season on January 6, 2018. By virtue of being older, and more established, the larger Krewes have determined when their balls are, and any other small Krewe just picks a date in between what the larger Krewes have deemed as their day.
