Official Mardi Gras 2018 Ball Announcement Flyer

The 2018 Mardi Gras Ball Schedule in Lafayette, La is finalized; so let the party begin!

For most Mardi Gras Krewes in South Louisiana, the Carnival is a year-long celebration which all leads to the Balls, the parades, and finally Mardi Gras day.

The Children’s Krewe of Oberon Ball and the Krewe of Carnivale en Rio kicked off the 2018 Mardi Gras Ball Schedule this season on January 6, 2018.  A Mardi Gras Ball in Lafayette Louisiana is a wonderful experience and each ball is very different.  Some Mardi Gras Balls are very high energy such as the type of ball the Krewe of Xanadu puts on and some are very traditional such as the type of ball Krewe of Triton puts on.

How are the Mardi Gras Ball Schedules Determined?

Traditionally, some Mardi Gras Krewes always have their Ball on a certain day every single year.  For example, The Krewe of Xanadu always has their Mardi Gras Ball the Friday before Mardi Gras, while the Krewe of Bonapart always has their Mardi Gras Ball on Monday (the day before Mardi Gras).

By virtue of being older, and more established, the larger Krewes have determined when their balls are, and any other small Krewe just picks a date in between what the larger Krewes have deemed as their day.

Mardi Gras Balls in Lafayette, La

A Mardi Gras Ball in Lafayette, La, is sometimes called a Bal Masque (masked ball).  Some Mardi Gras Balls are Masked balls while others are not.  Most Mardi Gras Balls in Lafayette, La are considered black tie events, there are still small krewes who do not require a Tux and floor length gown.  Through its themed Tableau, the audience has the opportunity to meet the Mardi Gras krewe’s leaders, royalty and entertaining krewe members, who are all performing in an entertaining evening of song and dance.

There are jeweled up costumes with a lot of glittering array of colors and themes, and more rhinestones and sequins than you can imagine!  Costumes are made most often with shiny fabric; however, that is never enough.  Using high-quality rhinestones, sequins and glitter are what makes these costumes come alive.  There is always a Mardi Gras Ball Theme and the costumes, decorations, stage setting all work with the theme.
