We're pre-organized day trips for you which will give you suggestions of what to do in this area.  You'll get a chance to visit some of the hidden gems in the area and go where locals go too!  Your Inn Keeper is a Cajun and has visited all these places; so sit back and relax.  All you have to do is pick a trip and show up!

 

You'll leave the Mansion after your breakfast and drive directly to New Iberia and you'll have lunch there too!

You'll have the opportunity to visit a beautiful historical home & it's stunning gardens called "Shadows on the Teche" in downtown New Iberia.  There are many other interesting things to see down Main Street such as Bouligny Plaza, Bayou Teche Museums, Cafe's, Shops and much more.

You'll have lunch at a quaint little Cajun restaurant called "Beau Soleil Cafe".  The food is awesome and it's definitely a hidden gem.

Next you'll drive about a mile to the Konriko Rice Mill and from there you'll drive about four miles to Spanish Lake where you'll see beautiful wild life and you can even fish if you'd like.

Next stop you'll drive about 20 miles to Lake Martin to see the Bird Sanctuary and if you decide to fish, you'll catch Brim and Bass.

Cajun Day Trip #3 Details

Off to New Iberia to visit everything we are listing below on main street and you'll even get to eat lunch at a quaint little restaurant with fabulous food.  Then to Konrico Rice Mill, then Spanish Lake and finally Lake Martin.

Boy is this Day Trip full of fun and the best thing is that it's minutes away from your home base, The Louisiana Cajun Mansion Bed and Breakfast.

We've arranged this day trip in specific order so that your trip runs smooth with no bumps!  We even have suggestions for meals and snacks along the way during the day.

    1. Shadows on the Teche - Is a National Historic landmark and was built in 1834.

      4. House tours run approximately 35-45 minutes and begin at the Visitors Center with a brief introductory video.

      3. Interactive exhibits showcase the spicy blend of cultures, artists, industries and lore that sprang from the land surrounding the snake-like curves of the peaceful South Louisiana bayou.

    3. Bouligny Plaza
      1. Main Street, New Iberia, La
      2. A bust of  Dom Francisco Domingo Joseph Bouligny listing the 16 founding families is in the park.  Bouligny served as the lieutenant governor acting as the military governor in 1799.  He founded the city of New Iberia.
      3. The Teche Area Farmers Market is open year round on Saturday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Experience our harvest of delicious homegrown produce and home-made products by area farmers, artists and crafters.
    4. Preservation Bar and Grill - Definitely a hidden gem that locals go to. You'll enjoy having lunch here.

    5. Konriko RiceThe Conrad Rice Mill is an independently owned and operated rice mill located in New Iberia, Louisiana, and produces the Konriko brand of rice varieties.

    6. Spanish Lake

      3. Spanish Lake is home to a variety of birds such as heron, woodpecker, warbler and hawk.  There are fifty three species that nest at the lake, with over two hundred forty species being spotted over the years. It is also home to alligators, beaver and nutria.  The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries stocked the lake with Florida bass fingerlings in 1997, 1998, and 1999.  You can fish and catch catfish in the lake.
    7. Lake Martin

      2. Approximately 9,500 acres of important cypress-tupelo swamp and bottomland hardwood forest habitat is protected. The lake is a swampy ecosystem that's full of wildlife and native plants. Unlike the deeper swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin, Lake Martin can be easily reached by car  and much of the surrounding area can be explored on foot or in a canoe or kayak.
      3. Bird Sanctuary
      4. HOURS - The Visitor Center is staffed by volunteer Docents weekend days from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm all year round and from Wednesday through Sunday during the busy springtime. We are often open during the week, but please call before your visit to make sure.
      5. If you decide to fish, you can expect to catch Bass and Brim.
