Louisiana Mardi Gras at the Mansion

The Mardi Gras 2017 season is upon us here in Cajun country, and this year the Louisiana Cajun Mansion is doing the carnival in style! Mardi Gras at the Louisiana Cajun Mansion

It’s a magical time for us here at the mansion. The Christmas & New Year holiday season has ended and now it’s time for Cajuns and their friends to party!

Foundations of Louisiana Mardi Gras

Ironically, Mardi Gras is historically founded in the deeply religious traditions of our people. Each year, the approach of the Catholic Lenten season means that the faithful will pledge to sacrifice some of their normal luxuries and amusements for forty days in order to reflect upon the sacrifices made by their savior.

Since Cajuns are a fun loving people, and the approach of Lent means 40-days of restraint, the final day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, became a day known for cutting loose and indulging in revelry.

This day of indulgence became known as “Fat Tuesday“, but in Cajun French we call it Mardi Gras!

So many elaborate Mardi Gras balls, parades, and events are happening throughout the area and you can be a part of the celebration and revelry!

Sound like fun?

Book a suite at the Mansion and you’ll be at the heart of the real Cajun Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras 2017 – The World Turns its Gaze on Louisiana Mardi Gras ‘Runs’ & Parades

If you love parades, you’ll find the wildest two weeks on earth right here in south Louisiana. Within a few moments drive from the Mansion you’ll find amazing events, done up in rustic style; like the rough and tumble Courir de Mardi Gras where masked riders take to the countryside to drink and beg for food. There are also more civil celebrations in towns where cultural and Cajun entertainment events carry on for days. And of course, there are the high-gloss parades or New Orleans and the unforgettable — if slightly dangerous — stroll along world-famous Bourbon Street.
